In addition, using data from an unselected cohort of consecutive patients, prognostic factors for long–term mortality were explored. Findings demonstrated that in comparison to patients with possible IE, patients with definite IE (Duke criteria) on a prosthetic heart valve independently exhibited a worse prognosis.
