Comparison of oncologic outcomes of unanticipated cervical carcinoma in women undergoing inadvertent simple hysterectomy and those undergoing surgical treatment after preoperative diagnosis
Gynecologic Oncology Apr 28, 2019
Ruengkhachorn I, et al. - In this investigation, researchers identified the proportion of women with undiagnosed cervical carcinoma before simple hysterectomy and its causes and compared the oncologic results of women diagnosed and treated with standard therapy with those undergoing inadvertent simple hysterectomy with subsequent treatment. Between January 1, 2004, and December 31, 2014, medical records were reviewed for patients with cervical carcinoma who had hysterectomy. After a simple hysterectomy, patients with cervical carcinoma (10.8%) were diagnosed. Comparable to women in the standard surgical treatment group, those with cervical carcinoma who had small tumors and experienced inadvertent simple hysterectomy with appropriate consequent management had oncologic results.
