Comparison of objective and subjective sleep parameters in patients with bipolar disorder in both euthymic and residual symptomatic periods
Journal of Psychiatric Research Dec 17, 2021
Fujita A, Esaki Y, Obayashi K, et al. - Clinically, sleep disturbances in bipolar disorder are often assessed using subjective sleep assessment tools such as sleep diary and questionnaires. Researchers herein examined the accuracy of these tools as compared with objective tools, such as actigraphy.
A cross-sectional study including 164 patients with diagnosis of bipolar disorder.
A high correlation was observed between the total sleep time assessed by diary vs actigraphy.
Regardless of having a euthymic or symptomatic period, the correlation remained significant.
The questionnaire and actigraphy had either low or no correlations.
