Comparison of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and mean platelet volume in the prediction of adverse events after primary percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction
Atherosclerosis May 24, 2018
Machado GP, et al. - In a prospective cohort study, researchers compared neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) vs mean platelet volume (MPV) as predictors of adverse events following primary primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). The area under the curve (AUC) was calculated by conducting receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. The calculated AUC for in-hospital major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) was 0.57 for NLR and 0.56 for MPV. Only NLR was found to be an independent predictor for in-hospital MACE. An excellent negative predictive value (NPV) for no-reflow and in-hospital MACE was demonstrated by a low NLR and this could be of clinical relevance in the management of low-risk patients.
