Comparison of narrowband UV-B with psoralen–UV-A phototherapy for patients with early-stage mycosis fungoides: A systematic review and meta-analysis
JAMA Dermatology Feb 03, 2019
Phan K, et al. - Investigators examined 778 candidates to assess the effectiveness and adverse effects of psoralen–UV-A (PUVA) vs narrowband UV-B (NBUVB) in early-stage mycosis fungoides (MF). They found no significant difference between PUVA and NBUVB in terms of adverse effects like erythema, nausea, pruritus, phototoxic effects, dyspepsia, and pain. They noticed "any response" in 90.9% cases treated with PUVA vs 87.6% treated with NBUVB. They observed complete response among 73.8% subjects who received PUVA vs 62.2% receiving NBUVB, which was significant. Overall, they suggested PUVA was a potent alternative to NBUVB in the management of early-stage MF.
