Comparison of modern rigid fixation plating outcomes for segmental mandibular microvascular reconstruction
The Laryngoscope Apr 25, 2019
McCann AC, et al. - A sum of 142 individuals were studied to quantify the utility of standardized prebent/preformed reconstruction plates vs computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) custom plates in mandibular microvascular reconstruction. They noted perioperative complications in 35.9% of candidates with prebent/preformed plates and 11 of 53 subjects who used CAD/CAM custom plates. They also observed the occurrence of reoperation requiring hardware explantation in 18 of 89 cases and 5.6% of subjects using CAD/CAM custom plates. They exhibited fewer complications and statistically lower reoperation rates in the CAD/CAM custom plates utilized for rigid fixation during microvascular mandibular reconstruction as compared to prebent/preformed plates.
