Comparison of microendoscopic selective laminectomy vs conventional laminoplasty in patients with degenerative cervcical myelopathy: A minimum 2-year follow-up study
BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders Nov 04, 2019
Oshima Y, et al. - In this comparative historical analysis involving 254 prospectively enrolled patients, researchers compared the surgical outcomes, complications, and imaging parameters of cervical microendoscopic interlaminar decompression (CMID) through a midline approach vs conventional laminoplasty, with a minimum follow-up period of 2 years. The sample consisted of patients who had either laminoplasty (LP) or CMID for degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) between May 2008 and April 2015. According to findings, CMID selective decompression showed surgical outcomes equivalent to those of conventional LP, raising a question about the need for extensive posterior spinal cord shift in these individuals. While CMID indications are scarce and comparison is mandatory with anterior surgery, DCM may be a minimally invasive procedure.
