Comparison of lung imaging using three-dimensional ultrashort echo time and zero echo time sequences: Preliminary study
European Radiology Apr 06, 2019
Bae K, et al. - In this preliminary study, researchers determined the feasibility of using high-resolution volumetric zero echo time (ZTE) sequence in routine lung magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and compared free breathing 3D ultrashort echo time (UTE) and ZTE lung MRI in terms of image quality and detection of small nodules. During routine lung MR, 20 patients had both UTE and ZTE sequences. Via statistical analysis, differences between the two sequences were compared. Findings revealed that it is feasible to implement ZTE as an additional sequence in routine MR lung. Using a shorter time than UTE, ZTE can provide high-resolution pulmonary structural information with better SNR and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR).
