Comparison of liver recovery after sleeve gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y-gastric bypass
Obesity Surgery Apr 07, 2021
Schmitz SMT, Kroh A, Koch A, et al. - Researchers sought to determine how Roux-en-Y-gastric bypass (RYGB) and sleeve gastrectomy (SG) affect the postoperative recovery of liver function. This prospective cohort study was performed including a total of 175 patients with obesity that underwent bariatric surgery. Preoperative assessment as well as postoperative assessment at 6 and 12 months were performed for BMI, laboratory values, and liver function capacity (using LiMAx). Per outcomes, liver function improves after undergoing bariatric surgery, especially after sleeve gastrectomy. However, liver function capacity may deteriorate postoperatively in some patients with T2DM, higher preoperative weight and male gender.
