Comparison of levetiracetam with phenytoin for the prevention of intravenous busulfan-induced seizures in hematopoietic cell transplantation recipients
Cancer Chemotherapy and Pharmacology Aug 09, 2018
Akiyama K, et al. - A retrospective investigation was conducted evaluating preventive effects and adverse events related to anticonvulsants, such as levetiracetam and phenytoin, administered with intravenous busulfan (ivBu) by analyzing data of 104 subjects who received ivBu from May 1, 2010 to April 30, 2017. It was observed that anticonvulsant prophylaxis was considered necessary for safe conditioning with ivBu. They found that adverse events associated with the use of levetiracetam were within an acceptable range. Levetiracetam was considered beneficial in preventing seizures. Data reported that levetiracetam is easy to administer and has ideal pharmacokinetics for supportive care.
