Comparison of laparoscopic proximal gastrectomy with double-tract reconstruction and laparoscopic total gastrectomy in terms of nutritional status or quality of life in early gastric cancer patients
European Journal of Surgical Oncology Sep 03, 2018
Park JY, et al. - Researchers compared the surgical outcomes of laparoscopic proximal gastrectomy (LPG) reconstructed by the double-tract method vs those of laparoscopic total gastrectomy (LTG) via retrospectively reviewing early gastric cancer patients who underwent LPG (n=34) or LTG (n=46) between January 2011 and December 2015 from the prospectively established database. Compared to LTG, LPG with double-tract reconstruction seemed to be a better option in terms of preventing vitamin B12 deficiency, particularly after 1 year after the surgery. However, this procedure conferred little benefit in terms of postoperative body composition changes and quality of life.
