Comparison of IV granisetron and IV palonosetron on hemodynamics and sensory and motor block after spinal anesthesia with hyperbaric bupivacaine in patients undergoing abdominal hysterectomy
Journal of Anaesthesiology Clinical Pharmacology Jul 01, 2019
Choudhary J, et al. - In female patients (n=126, ASA I and II physical status) who received spinal anesthesia with intrathecal bupivacaine for abdominal hysterectomy, researchers determined how hemodynamics, sensory, and motor blockade induced by intrathecal bupivacaine were influenced by granisetron and palonosetron [two 5-hydroxytrptamine-3 (5-HT3) serotonin receptor antagonists]. They grouped patients and intravenous 1 mg granisetron was administered to group G, intravenous palonosetron 0.075 mg to group P, and intravenous normal saline to group C. Five min prior to the spinal anesthesia, study drug was administered. In patients undergoing abdominal hysterectomy, no reduction in the hemodynamic alterations was evident in relation to intravenous administration of granisetron and palonosetron before intrathecal bupivacaine. Further, no clinically significant influences of both 5-HT3 receptors antagonists on the spinal blockade induced by hyperbaric bupivacaine were evident in this study.
