Comparison of intravenous lidocaine and dexmedetomidine infusion for prevention of postoperative catheter-related bladder discomfort: A randomized controlled trial
BMC Anesthesiology Mar 22, 2019
Li SY, et al. - In this randomized controlled trial, researchers compared the impact of intravenous lidocaine and dexmedetomidine infusion for preventing catheter-related bladder discomfort (CRBD). For this investigation, 120 subjects with elective open abdominal hysterectomy or hysteromyomectomy requiring urinary bladder catheterization were randomly assigned into 3 groups of 40 each. Investigators found that the incidence of CRBD as well as the additional tramadol requirement for CRBD were reduced by intravenous lidocaine and dexmedetomidine infusion but had no effect on the different severity of CRBD.
