Comparison of intravenous and non‐intravenous antibiotic regimens in eradication of P.aeruginosa and MRSA in cystic fibrosis
Pediatric Pulmonology Sep 01, 2021
Mursaloğlu HH, Akın C, Yeğit CY, et al. - No superiority of IV and non-IV treatment regimens was identified to one another in the eradication of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) and MRSA in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF).
A single-center retrospective study of respiratory specimen cultures of 309 CF patients and eradication regimens between 2015-2019.
Analysis was performed including 102 patients with PA isolations and 48 patients with MRSA.
The groups did not exhibit any statistically significant difference with respect to eradication.
Further, no significant correlation appeared between any of the clinical risk factors and eradication failure in PA and MRSA groups.
In view of the cost-effectiveness and the treatment burden of IV treatments due to hospitalization and the need for IV access, non-parenteral eradication appears a better option.
