Comparison of hepatic resection and transarterial chemoembolization for UICC stage T3 hepatocellular carcinoma: A propensity score matching study
BMC Cancer Jun 14, 2018
Zhong C, et al. - Researchers compared clinical outcomes following hepatic resection (HR) vs transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) for stage T3 hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). One thousand, one hundred seventy-nine patients with T3 HCC were divided into two groups: those who underwent HR (n = 280) and those who underwent TACE (n = 899) from 2005 to 2013. Before and after propensity score matching, the clinical outcomes were compared. The findings demonstrated that TACE was an option for UICC T3 HCC patients. Findings revealed that HR appeared to be harmless and yield a survival benefit compared with TACE, particularly for patients with a good underlying liver function.
