Comparison of gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy vs trabeculectomy with mitomycin C in patients with open-angle glaucoma
Journal of Glaucoma Jan 16, 2021
Fontana L, De Maria M, Caristia A, et al. - Researchers conducted this single-center, retrospective, comparative cohort study for comparing the intraocular pressure (IOP)-lowering the effectiveness of gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy (GATT) with mitomycin-C augmented trabeculectomy (TRAB) in patients with uncontrolled open-angle glaucoma. GATT (n = 61) or TRAB (n = 49) was performed in 110 consecutive patients (110 eyes). Data reported that percentages of complete and qualified success were 59% and 27% after TRAB and 46% and 31% after GATT. Findings revealed that the most frequent complication after TRAB was hypotony and after GATT hyphema. After TRAB, the IOP reduction was higher than after GATT at 18 months, with a substantial drop in the number of medications after both procedures. In both groups, complications and reintervention occurred similarly but varied in type.
