Comparison of general anaesthesia and non-general anaesthesia approach in transfemoral transcatheter aortic valve implantation
Heart Jul 28, 2018
Eskandari M, et al. - Researchers sought to assess the impact of general anesthesia (GA) vs non-GA approaches on procedural outcome and 30-day and 1-year mortality in transfemoral transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). Using the UK TAVI registry, they analyzed the data for patients implanted during 2013–2014 using either an Edwards Sapien or a Medtronic CoreValve prosthesis. Findings suggest no influence by mode of anesthesia on procedure outcome, 30-day or 1-year mortality. However, there appeared an association of GA with longer procedure duration and greater length of stay.
