Comparison of functional outcome of bipolar hip arthroplasty and total hip replacement in displaced femoral neck fractures in elderly in a developing country: A 2-year prospective study
European Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery & Traumatology Nov 01, 2017
Sonaje JC, et al. - This prospective study compared the short-term functional outcome in elderly patients who underwent either bipolar hip arthroplasty (BHA) or total hip replacement (THR) for displaced femoral neck fractures in a developing country. Researchers concluded that BHA can be recommended as the first line of surgical management in this group of patients; it was comparable to THR in terms of functional outcome by modified Harris hip scoring. Furthermore, BHA vs THR was associated with significantly less blood loss during surgery, less duration of surgery and was more cost-effective.
