Comparison of fertility outcomes after laparoscopic myomectomy for barbed vs nonbarbed sutures

Arena A, Esposti ED, Cristani G, et al. - Via performing this retrospective, monocentric cohort study, researchers sought to determine how in women who had undergone a laparoscopic myomectomy and had sought pregnancy afterward, barbed sutures to repair uterine breaches during laparoscopic myomectomy, compared with traditional smooth sutures, affects women’s reproductive outcomes. Among 164 included patients, 83 were in nonbarbed group and 81 in barbed group. At least one postoperative pregnancy was reported in 91 patients (55.5%). Barbed sutures were similar to smooth conventional threads regarding their impact on reproductive outcomes, both in terms of pregnancy and obstetric complication rates, after laparoscopic myomectomy. .
