Comparison of endovenous interventions vs stripping and ligation for varicose veins arising from the popliteal fossa
Journal of Vascular Surgery Sep 26, 2019
Fung A, et al. - The outcomes of varicose veins originating from the popliteal fossa at a single center were reviewed. Patients with CEAP classification C2 or higher were included. Via retrospective analyzing varicose vein referrals to two practicing surgeons to screen for varicose veins arising from the popliteal fossa, researchers identified 98 patients with varicose veins originating from the popliteal fossa. Of these 46 underwent intervention: 21 underwent ligation and stripping of veins and 25 underwent endovenous procedures for their varicose veins. Outcomes support open surgery under local anesthetic as a safe and viable option for these varicose veins. This procedure is linked with a significant lowering of clinical grading when compared with endovenous interventions.
