Comparison of effectiveness of ropivacaine infusion regimens for continuous femoral nerve block for recovery after total knee arthroplasty: A randomized double-blind trial
Journal of Pain Research May 15, 2020
Zhang Y, Liu L, Zheng L, et al. - Researchers investigated how continuous femoral nerve block (cFNB) regimens differ in their effect on rehabilitation of patients after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). They performed recruitment of 60 patients, who were scheduled to undergo TKA, to 0.1%, 0.15%, or 0.2% group in which they received infusion of 10 mL of 0.1%, 6.7 mL of 0.15%, and 5 mL of 0.2% ropivacaine per hour, respectively, at the dose of 10 mg/h for 48 h after undergoing surgery. Relative to patients in the 0.1% group, patients receiving the regimens of 0.15% and 0.2% ropivacaine infusion for cFNB at the dose of 10 mg/h for 48 h were ready for discharge earlier after TKA. For postoperative analgesia after TKA, they recommend the regimen of 0.15% ropivacaine given its link with less quadriceps muscle strength weakness than 0.2%.
