Comparison of effective phacoemulsification time and corneal endothelial cell loss using two different ultrasound frequencies
Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery Apr 28, 2019
Dewan T, et al. - Investigators examined 160 candidates to assess 2 distinct ultrasound frequencies for phacoemulsification in subjects with moderate to hard cataract in this randomized controlled trial. Candidates were categorized: Group A, lower frequency (28KHz) phacoemulsification and Group B, higher frequency (42KHz) phacoemulsification. In comparison to group A, Group B was correlated with significant decreases in effective phaco time (EPT) and estimated fluid usage (EFU). Even after adjustment with age, the grade of cataract, EPT and EFU postoperatively upto one year follow up, ECD percentage losses were also significantly lower in group B and the difference was statistically significant.
