Comparison of dysplastic fundic gland polyps in patients with and without familial adenomatous polyposis
Histopathology Feb 27, 2018
Straub SF, et al. - An inquiry was set up with regard to the significance of dysplastic fundic gland polyps (d-FGPs) in patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) and in nonsyndromic patients. The development of d-FGPs was found to be earlier in FAP patients. These patients more often developed additional ones than nonsyndromic patients. Similar low rates of β-catenin nuclear immunohistochemistry (IHC) positivity was discovered among dysplastic FGPs in FAP and nonsyndromic patients. Findings illustrated that FAP and nonsyndromic patients developed non-gastric cancers at similar rates, which in turn, hinted that d-FGPs could portend a generally increased risk of carcinogenesis in nonsyndromic patients.
