Comparison of drug eluting vs bare metal stents for pulmonary vein stenosis in childhood
Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions May 14, 2019
Khan A, et al. - In native and post-surgical pulmonary vein stenosis (PVS), researchers compared the outcomes of bare metal (BMS) and drug-eluting (DES) stents. They analyzed all patients who had a stent implanted for PVS at Texas Children's Hospital between August 1993 and November 2017 via this retrospective review. For the treatment of 58 lesions in 37 patients, BMS were used. Use of DES for treating 105 lesions in 41 patients was reported. At medium term follow-up, significantly lowered lumen loss rate was observed in relation to DES vs BMS, and DES could be fractured to enable larger diameters. Availability of larger diameter DES would be ideal.
