Comparison of dexmedetomidine vs propofol on hemodynamics in surgical critically ill patients

Chang YF, et al. - A comparison of the effects of dexmedetomidine and propofol on hemodynamics and clinical outcomes was performed in surgical intensive care unit (ICU) patients after major abdominal surgery. Random allocation of 60 enrolled patients to the dexmedetomidine or propofol group was performed. The dexmedetomidine and propofol groups did not differ significantly regarding cardiac index in surgical ICU patients after major abdominal surgery. The groups also did not differ significantly regarding the incidences of bradycardia, hypotension, and severe low cardiac index.
