Comparison of component placement accuracy using two intraoperative fluoroscopic grid technologies during direct anterior total hip arthroplasty
Journal of Arthroplasty Jul 20, 2020
Thorne TJ, Nishioka ST, Andrews SN, et al. - This research was sought to correlate component placement accuracy following the direct anterior approach total hip arthroplasty (THA) when intraoperative fluoroscopy was supplemented with a manual gridding system (MGS) or digital gridding system (DGS). Researchers performed a retrospective evaluation of acetabular cup abduction, leg length discrepancy, and global hip offset difference for consecutive patients from 6-week post-THA weight-bearing radiographs. They ascertained differences between MGS and DGS by independent t-tests. This study's findings demonstrate that usage of both the MGS and DGS resulted in consistent component placement within the predefined target zone. These differences are unlikely to be clinically significant, although the MGS appeared to be slightly more consistent.
