Comparison of clinical features and outcomes between patients with early and delayed lupus nephritis
BMC Nephrology Jul 10, 2020
Ahn SS, Yoo J, Jung SM, et al. - By reviewing medical records of 171 patients, researchers assessed the clinical characteristics as well as results of patients with early and delayed lupus nephritis. Higher disease activity and more frequent skin rash, oral ulcer and serositis were observed in patients suffering from early lupus nephritis; however, in the delayed lupus nephritis group, the proportion of patients exhibiting higher renal chronicity index was greater. The groups did not differ in terms of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and all-cause death. The correlation of C-reactive protein level, creatinine level and chronicity index, with ESRD, as well as the link of age and haemoglobin level with all-cause death was revealed in the Cox-proportional hazard analysis. Overall, findings revealed no significant difference in clinical results between early and delayed lupus nephritis. Rigorous adherence to current treatment recommendations is important for the management of lupus nephritis.
