Comparison of clinical characteristics and overall survival between spirometrically diagnosed chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and non-COPD never-smoking stage I-IV non-small cell lung cancer patients
International Journal of COPD May 30, 2019
Lim JU, et al. - Researchers focused on the clinical influence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in non-smoking non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients, as well as on correlations between COPD and other previously unassessed clinical variables. They compared spirometrically diagnosed COPD and non-COPD groups with respect to clinical parameters. This study included 345 patients, with 277 classified as non-COPD and 68 as COPD. Factors that significantly correlated with COPD were old age, male gender, and wild-type EGFR. Shorter overall survival (OS) times were observed among never-smoker NSCLC patients with COPD vs non-COPD never-smoker NSCLC patients. Factors that significantly predicted shorter OS in multivariate analysis were not receiving active anticancer treatment, advanced cancer stage, and COPD.
