Comparison of clinical and patient-reported outcomes of three procedures for recurrent anterior shoulder instability: Arthroscopic Bankart repair, capsular shift, and open Latarjet
Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research Oct 30, 2019
Xu Y, Wu K, Ma Q, et al. - Researchers conducted a retrospective case-cohort analysis of 168 patients (mean age 30.8 [range 18–50] years) who had recurrent anterior shoulder instability and had undergone either arthroscopic Bankart repair (33 males/20 females), open Latarjet (34 males/18 females), or capsular shift (31 males/14 females) in order to assess if all these patients exhibit similar outcome regardless of surgical technique. Observations support the efficacy of all treatments in improving shoulder functional status and reducing symptoms, while Latarjet had an advantage over subjective perception. Mini-invasion and rapid recovery are the advantages associated with arthroscopic Bankart repair. Stabilization of inferior or multidirectional type, especially little bone defect, was achieved with capsular shift. They identified a higher efficacy of Latarjet in reducing recurrence with higher stability.
