Comparison of causes and associated costs of 30-day readmission of transcatheter implantation vs surgical aortic valve replacement in the United States (a National Readmission Database study)
The American Journal of Cardiology May 15, 2018
Tripathi A, et al. - Researchers used the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project's National Readmission Database to compare readmissions and costs for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) in the United States. In order to examine differences in the propensity score 1:1 matched cohort including survivors of index procedures from January through November 2013, hierarchical multivariable regression analyses were used. In a nationally representative population-based sample, endovascular TAVI and SAVR carried similar rate of readmissions. Compared with SAVR, TAVI incurred 26% higher costs.
