Comparison of aspirin monotherapy vs dual antiplatelet therapy following coronary artery bypass grafting
The American Journal of Cardiology Mar 06, 2021
Hess NR, Sultan I, WangY, et al. - Researchers conducted a propensity-matched retrospective study from a large, multi-hospital healthcare system with the aim to compare the outcomes of aspirin monotherapy vs dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). They included a total of 3,562 propensity-matched patients, comprising 1,242 (34.9%) receiving aspirin monotherapy and 2,320 (65.1%) receiving DAPT. Median follow-up period was 4.90 years. Per outcomes, DAPT yielded no benefit in terms of improved survival or freedom from MACCE compared with aspirin monotherapy following isolated CABG, and was linked with a higher postoperative transfusion rate.
