Comparison of anthropometric indices for the screening of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in pre- and postmenopausal women
Menopause Jan 10, 2020
Hong SH, Hwang SY, Kim JA, et al. - Researchers examined the predictive value of various obesity indices such as BMI, waist circumference (WC), and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in pre- and postmenopausal women. From the Health Promotion Center of Korea University Guro Hospital, they included 620 healthy women (between 20 and 80 years of age) in this cross-sectional analysis (318 premenopausal and 302 postmenopausal women). The analysis revealed similar potential of BMI, WC, and WHR for predicting the risk of NAFLD in premenopausal women, however, in postmenopausal women, WHR is noted to be the most useful discriminative indicator for NAFLD. According to menopausal status, different optimal cutoff values of women for NAFLD were observed.
