Comparison of ankylosing spondylitis and non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis in a multi-ethnic Asian population of Singapore
International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases May 22, 2019
Hong C, et al. - Researchers used data from the PRESPOND (PREcision medicine in SPONdyloarthritis for Better Outcomes and Disease Remission) registry, to compare patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) to those with non-radiographic axial spondyloarthitis (nr-axSpA) with respect to clinical features, disease activity, patient-reported outcomes and related comorbidities, in a multi-ethnic Asian population of Singapore. Overall 262 axSpA patients (82% Chinese, 79% male) were examined. The observed characteristics of AS patients included older age, longer disease duration and higher Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Metrology Index. Furthermore, human leukocyte antigen-B27 positivity, uveitis, hypertension, and poorer spinal mobility were more likely to be seen in patients with AS, while a tendency for poorer well-being and quality of life was noted in nr-axSpA patients.
