Comparison of analgesic efficacy between two approaches of paravertebral block for thoracotomy: A randomised trial
Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica Jul 31, 2018
Taketa Y, et al. - In this prospective randomised trial, researchers compared the analgesic efficacy of two approaches ie, the intercostal approach or the paralaminar approach, for ultrasound-guided thoracic paravertebral block for thoracotomy. They intended to investigate if the type of approach for ultrasound-guided thoracic paravertebral block could affect analgesic quality in thoracotomy. Patients scheduled for video-assisted thoracotomy were divided into groups based on the block technique used: the intercostal approach (group IC) or the paralaminar approach (group PL). Based on the findings, the superior analgesic efficacy of paralaminar approach, vs intercostal approach, for thoracotomy was suggested.
