Comparison of 3-month visual outcomes of a spherical and a toric trifocal intraocular lens
Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery Dec 05, 2018
Poyales F, et al. - In this prospective, controlled clinical trial, researchers assessed visual outcomes and satisfaction after implantation of 2 trifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs): a spherical IOL and a toric IOL. For this investigation, patients (>50 years of age) were implanted bilaterally with either a trifocal spherical hydrophilic IOL (FineVision POD F) if corneal astigmatism was 1.0 diopter (D) or less, or with a trifocal toric hydrophilic IOL (FineVision POD FT) if astigmatism exceeded 1.0 D. They observed that patients improved visual acuity significantly and obtained functional uncorrected visual acuity over all distances in both the spherical IOL and the toric IOL groups. Satisfaction with both IOLs was high. No difference was found between the groups in contrast sensitivity, defocus curves, cylinder, or satisfaction outcomes.
