Comparison between the histopathological and immunophenotypical features of hypopigmented and nonhypopigmented mycosis fungoides: A retrospective study
Journal of Cutaneous Pathology Nov 05, 2020
Jayasinghe DR, et al. - Researchers conducted this cross‐sectional, retrospective study to objectively compare the clinicopathological characteristics of hypopigmented mycosis fungoides (HMF) with non‐HMF lesions in order to describe salient features of HMF. They analyzed biopsy specimens of 87 patients with MF. Clinical data, immunophenotypic characteristics and scores provided for six histopathological characteristics were contrasted between HMF and non-HMF groups: dermal infiltrate, basilar and superficially extending epidermotropism, Pautrier microabscesses and dermal and epidermotropic lymphocytic atypia. Data reported that 76 patients had HMF. HMF occurs with female predominance relative to non-HMF at a lower age and earlier stage. The diagnosis of HMF requires correlation with clinical features and thorough examination of epidermotropic cells due to milder dermal infiltrates, less dermal atypia, and Pautrier microabscesses.
