Comparing public safety outcomes for traditional probation vs specialty mental health probation

Skeem JL, et al. – A longitudinal observational study was performed to test whether specialty probation yields better public safety outcomes than traditional probation. In spite of the fact that it didn't particularly decrease violence, well–implemented specialty probation seems to be effective in diminishing general recidivism. Reform efforts for individuals with mental illness could leverage probation—a ubiquitous and revitalized node of the justice system.
