Comparing inpatient versus outpatient bowel preparation in children and adolescents undergoing appendicovesicostomy

Weatherly DL, et al. – Researchers deliberated that outpatient bowel preparation (OBP) would reduce length of stay (LOS) without increasing postoperative complications after appendicovesicostomy surgery. The data showed that preoperative inpatient bowel preparation led to longer LOS and higher costs of hospitalization in patients undergoing an appendicovesicostomy. In addition, OBP was not correlated with increased risks of postoperative complications.
