Comparing folic acid dosage strengths to prevent reduction in fetal size among pregnant women who smoked cigarettes: A randomized clinical trial

Yusuf KK, et al. - Among infants of women who smoked tobacco cigarettes during pregnancy, researchers determined the effectiveness of higher-dose folic acid in preventing a reduction in fetal body size. According to this double-blind, randomized clinical trial, cumulative evidence supports a causal connection between pregnancy tobacco use and intrauterine growth restriction, and a plausible link between smoking and low maternal folic acid levels.
