Comparative study of MRI biomarkers in the substantia nigra to discriminate idiopathic Parkinson disease
American Journal of Neuroradiology Aug 17, 2018
Pyatigorskaya N, et al. - In this study, MR imaging biomarkers of substantia nigra damage were compared as diagnostic tools for distinguishing patients with Parkinson disease from healthy volunteers. Excellent diagnostic accuracy was displayed by the combination of neuromelanin signal and volume changes with fractional anisotropy measurements in the substantia nigra. Moreover, the high diagnostic accuracy of visual evaluation of substantia nigra changes using dorsolateral hyperintensity analysis or neuromelanin-sensitive signal changes were suggestive of promising clinical utility of these techniques.
