Comparative fracture risks among US Medicaid enrollees with and without systemic lupus erythematosus
Arthritis & Rheumatology Feb 07, 2019
Tedeschi S, et al. - In this cohort study within Medicaid 2007-2010, researchers analyzed 47,709 systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) cases including 19.8% with lupus nephritis to evaluate the incidence rates (IR) of fracture among low-income SLE and lupus nephritis patients in comparison with those without SLE. They found highest fracture IR among SLE cases with nephritis (4.60/1000 person-years) as compared to matched non-SLE Medicaid patients. Persistence of elevated risk was noted after adjustment for baseline glucocorticoids and comorbidities.
