Comparative efficacy and safety of oral antihypertensive agents in pregnant women with chronic hypertension: A network meta-analysis
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology May 08, 2020
Bellos I, Pergialiotis V, Papapanagiotou A, et al. - Researchers compared the efficacy and safety of antihypertensive agents in pregnant women with chronic hypertension via performing network meta-analysis. Searching Medline, Scopus, CENTRAL, Web of Science, Clinicaltrials.gov, and Google Scholar databases from inception to December 15, 2019, they identified 22 studies (14 randomized controlled trials and 8 cohorts) for inclusion; these studies involved 4,464 women. Analysis revealed association of atenolol with a significantly elevated risk for small-for-gestational-age infants. Administration of nifedipine and methyldopa correlated with significantly reduced incidence of severe hypertension, however no significant difference in preeclampsia risk was noted among antihypertensive agents.
