Comparative effectiveness of aspirin and clopidogrel vs aspirin in acute minor stroke or transient ischemic attack

Stroke Dec 12, 2018

Kim JT, et al. - Using a prospective, nationwide, multicenter, stroke registry database in South Korea, researchers compared the efficacy of dual antiplatelet therapy with clopidogrel-aspirin to that of aspirin monotherapy in subjects with acute minor cerebral ischemia. Of the 5,590 subjects who met the eligibility criteria, they were 64±13 years old and 62.6% were male. Findings revealed that dual antiplatelet therapy with aspirin and clopidogrel was related to decreased stroke, myocardial infarction, and vascular death in the 3 months following a presenting minor, noncardioembolic ischemic stroke. In patients with a history of prior antiplatelet therapy, older age, and nonsmall vessel disease stroke mechanism, benefits can be particularly magnified.
