Comparative adherence to weekly oral and quarterly intravenous bisphosphonates among patients with limited heath literacy who sustained distal radius fractures
Journal of Bone and Mineral Metabolism Oct 10, 2017
Roh YH, et al. - In a study population of patients with low health literacy (HL) who presented with a distal radius fracture, researchers compared adherence to weekly oral and quarterly intravenous bisphosphonates. Findings demonstrated the association of inadequate HL, the presence of comorbidities, and weekly oral bisphosphonates with a higher chance of nonadherence to osteoporosis treatment, after controlling for confounding variables. Overall, it was inferred that these patients can achieve rates of adherence to quarterly intravenous bisphosphonates, as opposed to weekly oral bisphosphonates, similar to rates among patients with appropriate literacy.
