Comorbidities associated with eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis: Systematic review & meta‐analysis
Clinical Otolaryngology Apr 09, 2020
McHugh T, et al. - In this systematic review and meta‐analysis, researchers sought to understand clinical comorbidities correlated with eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis (ECRS). In addition, they explored the connection between the phenotype of nasal polyps and ECRS. Three independent databases were searched for articles that reported clinical CRS comorbidities correlated with tissue eosinophilia. Eighteen articles have been identified. Certain clinical disease features like ASA sensitivity, allergic rhinitis and asthma are more linked to CRS patients with eosinophilia when compared with those without eosinophilia. In addition, the phenotype of nasal polyps was linked to ECRS. It is important for surgeons to recognize these comorbidities to ensure that proper diagnosis, management and follow-up are carried out.
