Comorbidities as risk factors for rheumatoid arthritis and their accrual after diagnosis
Mayo Clinic Proceedings Nov 27, 2019
Kronzer VL, et al. - In this case-control study using a single-center biobank, recognizing 821 cases of RA (143 incident RA) between January 1, 2009, and February 28, 2018, described as two diagnosis codes plus a disease-modifying antirheumatic drug, experts ascertained the predominance of comorbidities in RA, determined which comorbidities might indoctrinate to developing RA, and recognize which comorbidities are more prone to develop following RA. It was discovered that RA development might be predisposed by inflammatory bowel disease, T1DM, and venous thromboembolism (VTE), while cardiovascular disease, VTE, and obstructive sleep apnea could result from RA. Findings have significant indications for RA pathogenesis, early discovery, and suggested screening.
