Common mental disorders within chronic inflammatory disorders: A primary care database prospective investigation

Annals of Rheumatic Diseases Apr 18, 2019

Dregan A, et al. - A total of 538,707 participants were researched to evaluate the risk of depression and anxiety within multisystem and organ-specific inflammatory disorders. Compared with the comparison group (5–7 per 1000 person-years), the incidence of depression ranged from 14 per 1000 person-years (severe psoriasis) to 9 per 1000 person-years (systemic vasculitis) which was substantively higher. They noted 16% higher HRs of multiple depression and anxiety events within inflammatory disorders vs matched comparison group. They also found elevated rates of depression and anxiety incidence among primary care patients with inflammatory disorders, especially those cases with early-onset inflammatory disorders.
