Combined screening with mammography and ultrasound in a population-based screening program

Buchberger W, et al. - This research was designed to compare the performance of screening with mammography combined with ultrasound vs mammography alone in women at average risk for breast cancer. The overall sensitivity of mammography only was 61.5% and 86.6% in women with dense breasts and in women with non-dense breasts respectively. In women with dense breasts, the sensitivity of mammography plus ultrasound combined was 81.3% and in women with non-dense breasts, it was noted to be 95.0%.
