Combined epidural-general anaesthesia vs general anaesthesia in neonatal gastrointestinal surgery: A randomised controlled trial
Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica Sep 18, 2019
Gannam-Somri L, Matter I, Hadjittofi C, et al. - Among neonates (n = 60) who underwent gastrointestinal surgery at a university hospital, researchers determined if combined epidural-general anaesthesia (CEGA) is related to expedited gastrointestinal function recovery. CEGA was delivered to half participants and the remaining half were administered general anaesthesia (GA) alone. Two neonates were removed from the CEGA group, leaving behind 58 patients who completed the study (CEGA: 28; GA: 30). Among participants, expedited gastrointestinal function recovery and a lower infection risk following gastrointestinal surgery were observed in correlation with the use of combined epidural-general anaesthesia.
