Combined association of key risk factors on ischaemic outcomes and bleeding in patients with myocardial infarction
Heart May 09, 2019
Lindholm D, et al. - Researchers evaluated cardiovascular death/myocardial infarction (MI)/stroke and major bleeding in patients with MI in relation to combined associations of six established risk factors for bleeding and ischemic events (age ≥65, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, multivessel disease, prior bleeding and prior MI). In this study, they used the Swedish Web-system for Enhancement and Development of Evidence-based care in Heart disease Evaluated According to Recommended Therapies registry. They found two or more established risk factors were present in the majority of patients with MI. Higher rate of ischemic events was observed in relation to increasing number of risk factors. With an increasing number of risk factors, only a minimal increase was evident in the bleeding incidence rate when patients with prior major bleeding were excluded. In relation to the presence of multiple risk factors, a high ischemic risk was noted.
